Easter Seals Annual Celebrity Slo-Pitch 2019

On Wednesday, September 25th, Darrell Chan of the Heart and Hustle Team at Century 21 Atria played and participated in a slo-pitch game. This was no ordinary game, it was Easter Seals’ annual Celebrity Slo-Pitch Tournament.

Easter Seals is an incredible organization which provides services and resources to children and youth with physical disabilities. The organization runs two 10-day summer camp programs which offer a unique opportunity for these physically disabled children and youth to have a fun and inclusive camp experience which allows them to participate in standard camp activities, such as water sports and ropes courses, with appropriate support and accommodations for their disabilities. The organization also provides multiple support programs for the disabled including the Incontinence Supplies Grant Program and the Top Up Program. Along with this, they offer financial educational support and scholarships for disabled students in need. Easter Seals fundraises in multiple creative and interesting ways. Along with collecting donations, they hold sporting events and tournaments.

At the 2019 Celebrity Slo-Pitch Tournament at the Barrie Community Sports Complex, the draft began a little while after 8:00 AM. The Heart and Hustle Team raised the highest amount out of the eleven teams, so we were honoured with the first pick for our new celebrity team member. We chose Rob Butler, a world-series champion and the co-owner of a Toronto baseball academy, to be an outfielder on our team.

Along with Bulter, our team won three out of our four games! One of these winning games was up against the other team from our brokerage and along with epic bragging rights, the Heart and Hustle Team won a dinner, courtesy of the match losers. As a brokerage, we are proud to have raised around $15 000. Our very own Darrell Chan even struck out Gregg Zaun, former Jays catcher! Along with our pride for participating in such an amazing charity event, a new friend was made. In the future, Rob Butler may even join Darrell’s team.

It was really phenomenal to see a lot of people were really involved and passionate about the cause. We are very excited to return next year to support a great cause with some excellent people.
